Why This Study Matters
When your pet is diagnosed with a heart condition, the amount of information can be overwhelming. We believe that providing clear, written leaflets can help you better understand your pet’s condition, the necessary treatments, and how to care for them at home. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of these leaflets against verbal information provided during consultations.
What You Need to Know
Purpose of the Study:
We aim to determine if informational leaflets improve pet owners’ understanding and satisfaction compared to verbal information alone. We hope to enhance communication between veterinarians and pet owners, ultimately benefiting the health and well-being of pets.
Who Can Participate:
- Owners of dogs or cats diagnosed with a cardiac disease who visited OVC Companion Animal Hospital Cardiology Department.
- You must be 18 years or older to participate in this study.
Your Participation:
- You will be asked to complete a brief online survey about your experience.
- The survey will take approximately 15 minutes.
- Your responses will be anonymous, ensuring your privacy.
How It Works
During your appointment with the cardiology department at OVC Companion Animal Hospital, you will receive consultation regarding the cardiac disease of your pet, medications, and next steps.
You may also receive an informational leaflet about your pet’s heart condition.
The leaflet will cover common causes, symptoms, treatments, and tips for managing your pet’s health at home.
After your appointment, you are invited to complete an online survey.
The survey will ask about your understanding of your pet’s condition, your satisfaction with the information provided during your appointment, and your opinion on the leaflet if you received one.
Why Participate?
- The results of this study will guide us in improving the information we provide to all pet owners.
- Your input will help us create better resources for all pet owners, ensuring they have the information they need to care for their pets.
- Better communication can lead to better health outcomes and more satisfying veterinary visits for owners.
- By participating, you are contributing to important research that can improve the lives of pets and their owners.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and confidential and will not affect the care your pet receives at OVC Companion Animal Hospital Cardiology Department.
We will not collect any identifying information, and your responses will remain anonymous. The data collected will be used solely for research purposes to improve our services.
